Turn the project into an action
“Work on the report” leaves a lot of decisions open. Try “write the three points this section needs to make”. Choose an action with a visible end. Gather the document, information or equipment needed before you begin.
Try a manageable interval
Set a duration you can realistically give the task. Silence optional interruptions while keeping any essential contact available. If a different task occurs to you, write a brief note and return to the chosen action. When the interval ends, decide what comes next.
- Write one clear action.
- Open only what you need to do it.
- Take a break or choose the next small action after reviewing what you finished.
A common mistake
Spending the whole block organising a perfect productivity system.
Try this next
Choose one task you can begin in the next few minutes and write its first visible action.
Evidence & sources
NHS self-help guidance suggests making tasks manageable and trying a short start. No single timer length is best for everyone; this is a work experiment, not ADHD or mental-health treatment.
